DEBORAH SOUTH MCEVOY
Altered Books
As a book artist, Deborah likes to peruse book stores for old worn books with hard covers.  She then either alters them in the state they are in or tears all the pages out and uses the covers, grouping them with other used bindings to tell her own stories.  Deborah uses found objects, ephemera, prints from her printmaking, collaging, mark making,  encaustic, sewing and traditional stab binding,   Deborah's books are generally one of a kind, sometimes she uses wire to attach found objects to the sides of her pages, other times, she sews them directly to the pages.  There are many "secret" hiding places in her books (ie, pockets, envelopes,) concealing hidden treasures for the reader to discover.
